Operating Theatre Journal logo and brand
Sector Medical publishing Scope Website redesign & build
The brief

An older site that worked, but didn't flow.

Operating Theatre Journal serves operating theatre professionals across all disciplines, plus the medical organisations and suppliers wanting to reach that audience with products, services and CPD content.

Their existing site had grown organically over years. Information was there, but readers had to work to find it. The brief was to modernise the design and re-structure the navigation so the right content surfaced for the right reader, fast.

What we built.

A focused redesign that keeps the publication's authority while making it usable on a phone.

Responsive redesign

A modern, mobile-first layout that works for theatre staff reading on the ward and on the train.

Information architecture

Re-grouped content by reader intent: news, case studies, course listings, supplier info.

Navigation overhaul

Cleaner top-level nav and in-page wayfinding so monthly content surfaces immediately.

Modernised look & feel

Updated typography, spacing and colour to match the seriousness of the audience.

Outcome

Easier to read, easier to subscribe.

Readers reported the site was "much easier to navigate." The publication continues to deliver monthly news, product releases, evaluations, case studies and course information to theatre staff responsible for patient care - now in a frame that does the content justice.
